Driving in Los Cabos is quite the experience, especially if you are aware of the basic driving tips. Countless numbers of visitors drive around in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo every year, some drive their own vehicle across the border and others by flying down and then renting a car (US & other foreign rental cars are not permitted in Mexico). Although taxis are a very common way to travel short distances while in Cabo, there is nothing like the freedom of having a your own car and agenda to explore what Los Cabos has to offer.
In all of Mexico and Los Cabos speed limits are posted in kilometers per hour (Kph) not miles per hour (Mph) as in the United States. An easy formula to calculate the difference between Kph and Mph is to take the kilometers per hour posted, multiply it by 6 and then drop the last digit. 100 kilometers per hour equals approximately 60 miles per hour.
If you are pulled over and ticketed for a driving violation in Cabo San Lucas you have the right to ask for and be issued a traffic ticket which can be paid at the police station or my mail. Police officers are not legally allowed to receive payment for violations (or bribes), but the age old ritual of 'mordida' still prevails in many parts of Mexico.

You will recognize Cabo del Sol because of the bridge over the highway. Go all the way to the right and get onto the bridge, turn left, enter Cabo del Sol development, pass the first security gate, follow straight to the bottom then turn left and you will immediately see Puerta del Sol to your right, between Fiesta Americana and the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar resorts.
Once you get to security, give the guards your name and the number of your unit and they will help you get there. They are not familiar with the names of the condos! But it is pretty easy to figure out where your unit is by its code name: The letter stands for the building: A for Dolphin, B for Marlin and C for Swordfish; the first digit for the level, 1 through 5, and the third digit is for the floor plan, again 1 through 5. Casa Cielo, B303 is in Building B, third floor, condo number 3. The Villas, on the other hand, are better known by its complete name. The number is to better help you find them in the map.
